Objectification is when women have NO SAY in the matter of being a sex symbol. Since when has feminism become so slut-shamey? Especially white women liking that post? REALLY?
Actually, I disagree with this to a degree.
Today, I was thinking about how POC can still exotify themselves and play into racist ideas of their own culture. I see East Asian artists exotify themselves to sell to Western artists, I see Latino acts exotify themselves to sell themselves to Western artists. In much the same way, I believe women can play into problematic or objectifying things so as to sell themselves.
The thing that’s wrong is coming as such issues like a basic, victim-blaming, problematic social systems-upholding asshole. “OMG u HAVE BEEN tricked BY THE PATRIARCHY” is a belittling and unempowering way to come at women. “OMG lol u don’t want 2 be oppressed THEN why DO U ACT like a STEREOTYPE” is a shitty and horribad way to come at POC. Accepting that we all, POC & women included, internalize shitty shitty things while also knowing that POC & women are marginalized groups trying to our names out there or get paid in a patriarchal, white supremacist culture (don’t blame the victim, blame the system) while also acknowledging we have autonomy and we can do what we please without having white women shedding tears trying to save us every five seconds.
Also, we have to fucking know the whole “ATTACK THE BLACK/LATINA ARTIST” shit is just basic-ass racialized sexism and it’s not even clever at this point.
